Eleven hotels sign on to new Sports Commission sponsorship program

Eleven Columbus area hotels have signed on to support the Greater Columbus Sports Commission through a new sponsorship program developed by the Sports Commission and the Greater Columbus Lodging Council.

To date, the 11 hotels have pledged more than $30,000 per year to support the GCSC's sales and marketing efforts. Participating hotels include the Best Western Clarmont; Crowne Plaza; The Lofts Hotel; Hampton Inn Hamilton Road; Towneplace Suites; Courtyard by Marriott Columbus West; Crowne Plaza Columbus North; University Plaza Hotel; Red Roof Inn; Columbus Airport Marriott and Embassy Suites Columbus.

The program, which provides unique marketing support from the Sports Commission to the hotels, is a cooperative effort to make Columbus a premier sports destination.

"It is very important that local Columbus hoteliers do their part to support the Greater Columbus Sports Commission," said Charles Lagarce, chairman of the Greater Columbus Lodging Council. "The Sports Commission is doing a tremendous job attracting events and visitors to Columbus, and it is imperative that the hotel community do its share to financially support the commission for that success to continue."

Several years ago the Lodging Council, then known as Central Ohio Hotel Association joined with community leaders to launch the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. Designed to help grow the local hospitality and travel industry, the Commission was officially formed in 2002 and was charged with selling our community as a destination for regional and national sporting events. Since its formation in 2002, the Commission has booked more than 75 new sporting events in Columbus, and visitor spending for new sports bookings has exceeded $90 million.

The sponsorship program is based on a hotel's room inventory and level of service. For more information, contact Brian Timm, the GCSC's Director of Corporate Partnerships, at BTimm@ColumbusSports.org.
