Can-Am Police-Fire Olympic Games to be held in Dublin in 2010Congratulations to our partners at the Dublin Convention & Visitors Bureau, which won the right to host the Can-Am Police-Fire Olympic Games in 2010. The games will attract 2,500 police officers and fire fighters from across North America, generating $3.5 million to the economy and 4,400 room nights. The Dublin Convention & Visitors Bureau and City of Dublin partnered on the bid to bring the event to Dublin and Central Ohio. The Can-Am Board's initial list for the 2010 games included 59 cities and was narrowed down to four last October. Detroit was also a finalist. The Games will include more than 50 different events held across Central Ohio during the weeklong event. Some of the events and venues include: K-9 (Port Columbus); Biathlon/Cycling (Mid-Ohio); Weight Lifting/Rifle (Columbus Police Academy); Skyscraper Climb (Huntington Bank Building); and Tug-O-War/Track & Field/Opening Ceremonies (Dublin Coffman). The Can-Am Police-Fire Games is an international event held every two years and will be held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan this summer. Cities to host the games in the past include: Calgary, Portland, Milwaukee, Seattle, among others. For more information, visit www.canampolicefiregames.org. |
