GCAC Announces Business Arts Partnership Award Winners
Three local businesses were awarded the Business Arts Partnership Award for their exemplary support of the arts at the Greater Columbus Arts Council's annual meeting, Tuesday, April 25 at the Ohio Statehouse Atrium. Each of the winning companies received an original work of art by a local artist. Columbus City Council President, Matthew D. Columbus Arts Festival Preparing to Kick-Off Summer Event SeasonThis year the Greater Columbus Arts Council celebrates the 45th anniversary of its premiere community event the 2006 Columbus Arts Festival presented by Chase with 300 talented and accomplished artists from across the country and Canada, expanded musical offerings this year including the Broad Street Club stage, the Community Stage and an array of central Ohio's hottest acts on the Bicentennial Stage. Also back this year is the Ohio Magazine sponsored Poetry Corner/Coffeehouse where spoken word performers will share their talents with the public. Full Story » GCAC Awards Individual Artists Fellowships in Visual ArtsThe Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) announced the recipients of the 2006 Individual Artist Fellowships (IAF) in Visual Arts. The fellowship recipients, chosen from 126 applicants, are Abdi Roble (photography), Tim Rietenbach (2D Visual), Philip Brou (2D Visual), and Steven Thurston (3D Visual). Each artist will receive $5,000, based on the artistic merit of the works submitted.
Arts Council Creates Hanley Arts FundOn Monday, April 17th, 2006, the Executive Committee of GCAC's Board of Trustees unanimously voted to create the Hanley Arts Fund, to be used for supporting the work of individual artists. Hanley, who died tragically on Easter Sunday, maintained a life-long commitment to supporting the work of individual artists. Full Story » GCAC & COSI Partner for Star Wars TicketingOn June 3, 2006, COSI Columbus will be the first official U.S. stop for Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination. Developed by the Museum of Science in Boston in collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd., the 10,000 square-foot exhibit explores the fantasy technologies depicted in the Star Wars films, the real science behind them, and the current research that may someday lead to remarkable real-life versions of the technologies seen in the film series. Full Story » Menhenett Named Interim President, GCAC Executive Search Moving ForwardMark Corna, Chair of GCAC's Board of Trustees, announced that Paula Menhenett has been named as Interim President of the Greater Columbus Arts Council. Paula, who has served as GCAC's Vice President of Administration and Finance since March, 1989, will assume all the responsibilities of the President's office in the aftermath of Ray Hanley's untimely death. Full Story » Kauffman Takes New Position With Leo Yassenoff Jewish Community CenterTim Kauffman, GCAC's Director of Marketing & Communications since 1996, announced that he has accepted the position of Assistant Executive Director for the Leo Yassenoff Jewish Community Center. Kauffman's last day with GCAC will be Friday, May 12th, and he will begin his new position at the Yassenoff Center on Monday, May 15th.
